ORCHIDS CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Temperature:
Phalaenopsis
Orchids prefer minimum temperatures at night of 60-65⁰F, and an average
daytime temperature of around 75-85⁰F. Occasional variations will not
harm your plant, except when in budding stage as chilly temperatures may cause
plant to stop budding.
Light:
Phalaenopsis
Orchids will flourish indoors under normal lighting conditions, with indirect
sunlight being the most advantageous.
Water:
Water often
enough to keep continous moisture just below the surface of the medium, but
please avoid over-watering as this will cause roots to rot. Watering once a
week is normally sufficient to keep your plant healthy and happy.
Humidity:
Phalaenopsis
Orchids enjoy moist air, with an ideal humidity level of 55-75%. You may mist
them regularly with a spray bottle
to recreate the tropical climate they love most.
Feeding:
High-nitrogen
fertilizer is recommended year-round at 1 teaspoon per gallon of water. Feed
your plant once a month. In this instance, less is more. So be sure not to
over-feed your plant.
Repotting:
Plants should
be repotted every other year (preferably in orchid soil you can find at your
local garden store), and because they grow upwards without spreading, you may
reuse the original container.
IMPORTANT:
When the last flower drops, cut your flower spike halfway
down the stem to encourage re-growth. Orchids do not spread and will re-grow
flowers on the original stem.
